Well, we may not have been able to do it without my income-tax refund, or generous birthday/christmas donations, but we’re already beyond our required net worth for entering australia.
Working Holiday Visa (year 1) = paid for, accepted
New Passport = paid for, and I’m assuming accepted because I pick it up on January 12
Flights = we found a smoking hot deal with Air Canada for $840 including taxes to Melbourne. It includes the connecting flight in Sydney.
So all in all, where I budgeted for $10,000, we now only need $8,000 to get into the country which I’m pretty happy about. Hopefully prices stay the same by the time we book our flight.
annnnd since we’ve done so well, we’re kind of maybe definitely putting forward our plan to travel to Toronto-Perth-Ottawa-Montreal-NewYork-Seattle in March for 18 days. Since we were such champions when we went to San Fransisco (2 people x 9 days including all expenses = $2,100), we figure budgeting for less than $3,500 will be no problem. And yes, that still includes all of our flights, trains, food, fun, etc.
The only difference is this time we might be under budget, depending on the generosity of the people who my parents have called to ask if we can please crash at their place(s). We’ll likely only stay with any one person for a maximum of 2 nights though.
